Prof. Dr.Franz X. Bogner for 20 years has chaired the Institute of Biology Education at the University of Bayreuth. As an Emeritus, he is leading the Centre of Math and Science Education (Z-MNU). Additionally he acts as research adjunct at the University of Arizona and as guest professor at the UPCV in Havana/Cuba. Over the last decades, beyond two dozen national projects, he has acquired 25 EU research projects under the vision of Inquiry-Based Learning and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). Currently he is leading the European ESD-project SYNAPSES with 10 EU-partners.
Prof. Bogner with over 300 original papers has reached an h-index of 56 and a 900 times best-cited paper. His habilitation model (2-MEV) repeatedly received independent confirmation and currently acts as part of the TIMSS study in 60 countries worldwide. He was the first German-speaking Biology Educator since 1928 to receive the highest US STEM research award (NARST). For decades, he is leading the Special Interest Groups ESD of the German Society for Ecology (GfOE) and the European Research Initiative of Didactic of Biology (ERIDOB).
